The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) represents State Departments of Transportation in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. It is a nonprofit, nonpartisan association serving as a catalyst for excellence in transportation. Eight state department of transportation projects in Alaska, California, Idaho, Texas, and Washington earned regional recognition in the 2022 America’s Transportation Awards competition; they will first compete on a regional level against projects of their own size: “Small” (projects costing up to $25 million), “Medium” (projects costing between $25 million and $200 million), and “Large” (projects costing more than $200 million).
The Texas entry (for Operations Excellence, Medium category) is Lowest Stemmons Project, which facilitates direct connections to and from the Dallas North Tollway, dramatically reducing weaving and merging, which ultimately increases safety for motorists.
